CSIR-CDRi ( http://www.cdriindia.org/home.asp ):
The Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI) is a multidisciplinary research laboratory in Lucknow, India, employing scientific personnel from various areas of biomedical sciences. It is one of the first laboratories to be established in India right after its independence. CDRI is among the thirty-nine laboratories that are functioning under the aegis of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research CSIR of India. CDRI was formally inaugurated on 17 Feb 1951 by the then Prime Minister of India, Jawahar Lal Nehru.
About the Internship:
The selected intern(s) will work on following during the internship:
1. Understanding how gene (exonic) sequence and fragmentation (exon number) have evolved for Autism related genes, what has been the redundancy in the genome of the gene segments and to explore that blast small segments, say an exon (and even intron) at a time and finding other genes having similar sections as these, small genes or even pseudogenes (both rightly and wrongly classified pseudogenes).
2. Understanding gene regulation. It is possible that regulatory RNAs and unidentified regions in introns, gene position (chromosomal position and neighbors) and overlapping genes might show more selection pressure than the exonic regions themselves. Gene sequence need not change, just its expression can alter the influence.
# of Internships available: 10
Who can apply:
Only those candidates can apply who:
1. can start the internship between 7th Jun'17 and 7th Jul'17.
2. are available for duration of 6 months (preferred, not mandatory).
3. are pursuing any degree but have relevant skills and interest.
4. are currently in any year of study or are recent graduates.
Other requirements:
1. Students would have to do a genomic analysis of genes involved in Autism and work with scientists at CDRI and German universities to work on the largest study on Autism genomics conducted so far. Only students with extensive experience in genomics, who are planning to take a break for few months to a year before moving on for Ph.D. would be taken up in this project. Please only apply if you can put in 40 hours plus a week.
Perks:
Certificate, Letter of recommendation, Flexible work hours.
